Hotspot Review: Weaver Street Market

Weaver Street laptop1
Weaver Street Market Co-op, in Carrboro, is one of the most popular community gathering places in the the Triangle and it has great wireless access. Sponsored by Weaver Street Market and the Town of Carrboro there is a small but robust wireless network that covers many local town buildings and businesses. Find more info at tocwireless.net.

Weaver Street has tables and chairs inside and outside. Very handy for hangn’ out during all seasons. There are several antennas that cover the area. This is a pro wireless setup.

The SSID (aka the name) is tocwireless. This wireless openly broadcasts its existence. No username and passwords to remember. It just works. Most modern laptops remember you’ve successfully logged in and open a connection as soon as you come back.

While there is plenty of connectivity in the air their are only a few electrical outlets outside and inside. So bring a strong battery or get there early. People are very friendly and happy to share an electrical outlet with you or even allow you to unplug theirs so your battery won’t die.

Coffee and food abound. Got to have that fuel for the mind and body to get something done. At Weaver Street I felt under no pressure to by something. Weaver Street is a community Co-op. That means its owned by it customers. Everyone is interested in creating a friendly and safe family type atmosphere. Come hang out all day and evening if you like. But I’d recommend buying something just to say thank you to this community for providing free open access to the Internet.

If I’m missing any good details please leave them in the comments.
